Une Année piqued my interest a couple of years ago, when I first had their Truth Against the World. I declared it my favourite saison ever, bought several bottles of it during 2015, and gave it five stars on Untappd. I haven’t had it in over 2 years, so I have no idea if I would still love it so fiercely, and Une Année now focuses on wild ales, so I’m not sure if they still make it.
They were originally located in Chicago, basically in my neighbourhood, but they didn’t have a tap room space and eventually moved to Niles, IL, and opened one. I really wanted to visit it before we moved, so the fella and I picked a Saturday in August to check it out. We came home with a few bottles, including two of their Tripel, which was only $7 in the tap room.
The first bottle we tried poured very foamy, but once it settled down, it was very good. We liked the bold flavour with fruity undertones. Fella: 3.75/5. Me: 4/5.
Unfortunately, we tried to crack the second bottle a few weeks ago. We don’t know if it was bad to start with, or if it was destroyed from living in the car for a couple of weeks during our move across the country, but it was quite sour, and not in a good way. Since I don’t know when we’ll be able to get any Une Année again (I don’t think they are distributed too far outside of Chicago), that was a bummer!
